Clinical psychologist

After her Master degree at the University of Amsterdam in 1980 she specialized as a clinical psychologist, child & youth psychologist specialist level and as a cognitive behavioral therapist.

Fredrike has worked in many different institutions in the mental health field: from psychiatric hospitals to outpatient clinics.
Since 1981 she is owner and director of a private practice in Amsterdam, where she has treated many clients: adults, children and families.

From the ’90 she works mainly in a solution focused way instead of a problem focused way. In Solution Focus the focus is on the preferred future.
Problem analysis is replaced by goal analysis. Clients are competent to define their goal and finding solutions to reach their preferred future.
She also uses findings and applications of positive psychology, where the focus is on what is right instead of what is wrong.

Besides working as a psychotherapist, she is a post-graduate trainer in the field of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Solution Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (SFCBT), Positive CBT, Positive Psychology (PP) and Positive Supervision & Intervision.

She is the author of many international publications on Positive CBT, SFBT, SFCBT, PP and Pos Supervision & Intervision.

Besides being a clinical psychologist she is a Master of Dispute Resolution (University of Amsterdam, 2006 cum laude) and a mediator for the Court of Amsterdam.

Focusing on the preferred future facilitates change in the desired direction.

Therefore, focus on what you do want instead of what you don't want.
